P52 Friday - Week #10 - "Quick Page" Your Way to Freedom!

Well, we're back home this week after a great little mom-and-dad-only trip to AZ without Emily! My mom came up and watched her and off we went. It was the perfect amount of time, by the end I was good and ready to get back to my little baby. She was a total trooper and did just fine without us - but she was very excited when we got home! I've got a lot of "huk"s and "keez"es this week to make up for lost time.

In "new release" news, in case you haven't heard, there are a bunch of Page Builders out and Barb has a fun little "Marathon" kit  for you crazy nuts who would rather run than do the more natural and relaxing activity I like to call walking. What's the rush, folks?!?! Kidding : D

My Week #9 layouts - features "Teen Boy" by Albums to Remember and Connie Prince
My Week #10 - features "What Friends Are For" by Meredith Cardall

My tip for this week is just a reminder of one of the BEST ways to catch-up quickly - faster than templates or Page Builders - but you have to be willing to give up creative control. This is, of course, QUICK PAGES! Add photos, add journalling, DONE.

I say it's a small price to pay to get caught up if you are really behind OR, in my case here, to supplement your P52 Album with some different pages. Every few weeks I am adding in a double spread that highlights something more specific about myself or something that has happened.

In this case, I have used to gorgeous FREE quick pages that I got from Jady Day Studio's blog. Her CT makes absolutely stunning QPs and PreDecorated papers! Below is an example of some supplement pages for Jan/Feb that I did. Guess how long they took? However long it takes to import 3 photos and do a little typing. Like, 10 minutes. And then I can pass them off as mine! LOL!

And don't let anyone tell you this is "cheating" - that's the craziest thing I've ever heard! You still made all your other pages!! No one says "it's cheating" if you use Stove Top Stuffing while making the rest of turkey dinner from scratch (unless you have a really mean mother-in-law or something) : D And using Page Builders is like buying the turkey instead of raising your own - again, no one calls it cheating when you buy your turkey from the store instead of your backyard.

And, as always...

If you are trying to do one layout a week, do it!

If you are trying to do two layouts a week, do it!

If you are doing a layout a month, make sure you've taken your weekly photo(s) and done your February spread.

If you are doing a layout per year, make sure you've taken your weekly photo!

P52 Friday - Week #6 - Today's the Day to (Re)Resolve!

Week #6 - made mostly with products from Crisdam Designs' "The Story Begins" series

Fallen off the band-wagon?

This week is a cheerful reminder that our P52 wagon just keeps going in circles and will come pick you back up when you're ready to hop on! Missed a week or two? Who cares! Make a layout that covers two weeks. Don't give up on your goal to preserve those family memories for better or worse. If your P52 commitment is getting you stressed or bogged down, take the week off, buy a new kit to inspire you and HOP BACK ON!!! We can do this!!! Consider this the wagon looping back around, grab my hand and let me pull you back on : )

Here's a couple helpful links for the week...

...Don't forget about Barb's awesome All in a Day P52 Kit

...Need a GREAT tutorial by Jonyce on using Page Builders/Outside Content in Page Builders on MMS??? Check out these two tutorials - there are even PDFs you can download!!

...Want to catch-up fast? The "All in a Day Template" set has hit the store too! Confusingly under a different design name - we are working on clearing that up in the future.

...Still trying to finish January? Here's a great set of templates from Connie Prince!

**FORMAT CHANGE NOTE**

Rather than doing a Friday AND Saturday post, I am going to start doing just Friday and for those following the MMS P52 series, I will reference the PREVIOUS week's MMS Saturday post in my Friday post for the following week. Make sense? My Saturday posts were feeling really redundant! So We'll skip those and just do P52 Friday : D

So. If you are following the MMS P52 series, their word for last Saturday was "EMBRACE".

And, as always...

If you are trying to do one layout a week, do it!

If you are trying to do two layouts a week, do it!

If you are doing a layout a month, make sure you've taken your weekly photo(s).

If you are doing a layout per year, make sure you've taken your weekly photo!

P52 - Saturday unAssignment #4

If you are following along with the MMS P52 Series, here is a link to their fourth post: http://www.mymemoriesblog.com/2012/01/welcome-to-mymemories-project-52-week-4.html

Pull back the curtain, cue music, it's the.... Saturday unAssignment #4.

If you are following the MMS P52, their word of the week is "Renew".

This week's P52 Friday was all about what to do when, well, you don't know what to do! Hope some of those ideas help you when you're feeling stuck with your weekly page(s). My challenge to you this week is to not let a slow week throw you off your game - if you have the time, why not start pre-making a layout of two for the next couple weeks? My secret to staying on top of things is using a bit of free time or inspired scrappy moments to whip up a couple layouts in advance (you can always change them or keep bumping them down the line if you are caught up or have a different idea for that week).

And, as always...

If you are trying to do one layout a week, do it!

If you are trying to do two layouts a week, do it!

If you are doing a layout a month, make sure you've taken your weekly photo and it's probably time to make that JANUARY spread, can you believe the month is nearly over?!?!

If you are doing a layout per year, make sure you've taken your weekly photo!

P52 - Saturday unAssignment #2

First off, if you are following along with the MMS P52 Series, here is a link to their second post: http://www.mymemoriesblog.com/2012/01/welcome-to-mymemories-project-52-week-2.html

And now....theeeeeeeeeeeeee Saturday unAssignment #2.

If you are following the MMS plan, their word of the week is "PLAN".

Here's my little mini-assignment for you. Scrap Kat posted a great "Thoughtful Thursday" post on Albums to Remember's facebook page this week on re-purposing kits (for example, using embellishments from a Christmas kit to make a wedding page or using paper from a birthday kit to make an every-day page). This can be a big money saver if you can't afford many new kits and a creative adventure as you rediscover elements of old kits and make them new to you all over again.

Therefor, I challenge you to include 1-2 elements in your page (could be embellishments, alphas, paper, whatever!) from a kit you never would've suspected would help you with your P52 Week 2 page. And then share when you post where you found those little gems hiding! I love being thrifty!!! As always, if this in no way inspires you or helps you, just leave it! : D We're here to have fun and make pages we like ourselves, not what someone else would like : )  : )

And, as always...

If you are trying to do one layout a week, do it!

If you are trying to do two layouts a week, do it!

If you are doing a layout a month, make sure you've taken your weekly photo!

If you are doing a layout per year, make sure you've taken your weekly photo!

Saturday unAssignment #1

First off, if you are following along with the MMS P52 Series, here is a link to their first post:
http://www.mymemoriesblog.com/2012/01/welcome-to-mymemories-project-52-week-1.html

There are some good tips in there! Their plan is to give you a key word each week that you could use in your layout. If that helps inspire you, go for it. If that doesn't fit at all with what you are doing, just take the tips you CAN use (I know they'll have lots!) and leave the rest, no biggie!

There are no real requirements here in this group other than that we are trying to find a way to track our year and decided to do it together! I hope I haven't made it seem like you are restricted in any way by what you do with YOUR P52 book. My "rules" are explaining what a genuine, pure "P52" book would look like. If that isn't your taste, no worries. You're still in the club! Just keep your LO posts and comments related to P52 projects and you're good to go! : D

So, here's your... Saturday unAssignment #1 for Week One. (this is supposed to be fun, not school!)

**The BEST thing you can do it just get started. You may change your plan or style of book later on, but at least you have something to work with and have made sure you have your photos and journaling. The secret is to keep up with journaling or else you will forget why on earth you took those photos and why they mattered to you that day.**

If you are following the MMS plan, their word of the week is "COMMIT" (Continue On Making Memeries I Treasure). Their tutorial of the week is on using Word Art.

If you are trying to do one layout a week, do it!

If you are trying to do two layouts a week, do it!

If you are doing a layout a month, make sure you've taken your weekly photo!

If you are doing a layout per year, make sure you've taken your weekly photo!

Need inspiration? Check out this AMAZING P52 album by Tracyfish. I like it because the layouts all look similar...yet different. So the book has amazing flow. She is using PS of some kind so the templates wouldn't work for MMS but you could try using a particular Page Builder set that you like and revamp it a little each week to suit the photos.

Tracy says...

I used these templates by Cindy Schneider.
I kept the same background kraft paper for each and then used different kits each week to compliment the photos or time of year (holiday, etc.).  Everything I used was from Sweet Shoppe Designs. I obviously have other layouts mixed in with these, but all my P52 layouts are in my gallery here with full credit lists.

Project 52 - Week 1 - There Are So Many Ways to Skin A Cat...

It's hard to know where to start with a P52. Fortunately, there are so many options - you can pick whatever suits your lifestyle best. I will list them from LEAST time commitment to MOST...

*One Photo per week, 2 Layouts per year.
If you are extra lazy or this project is doomed to fail because your life is too crazy, you pick one photo a week and then put them on a 2 page spread of 26 little square photo boxes per page that feature the photos in order for the year. But really. Come on. That's like Plan Z.

**One or Many Photos per week, Two Layouts per month. (aka Project 12 - see this link)

Take one or more meaningful photos a week and then turn them in to a 2-page spread once a month. So you would do two pages for January that feature at least one photo from each week that month and some journalling to explain why those photos matter. This is also great option if you have a busy month and just need to catch up so you can stay current.

***One Photo per week, One Layout per week.

Take one meaningful photo a week (could even just be your cat's breakfast - life is life) and turn it in to a one-page layout with or without journaling. To save even more time, your layouts could be done in a template style that you will more-or-less match every week with some variation to keep it interesting.

****Many Photos per week, One Layout per week.
Take several meaningful photos a week and turn them in to a one-page layout with or without journaling. To save time, your layouts could be done in a template style that you will more-or-less match every week with some variation to keep it interesting.

*****Many Photos per week, Two Layouts per week.
Take several meaningful photos a week and turn them in to a two-page layout with or without journaling. As mentioned, to save time, your layouts could be done in a template style that you will more-or-less match every week with some variation to keep it interesting.

Do you know of any other options? Post them under the link to this article on the P52 Support Group FB Page and I will add them to this post myself.

An idea from Diana B: Here is what I'm going to do. It's kind of a combo of 52 and a 365. I'm going to create 1 page in a calendar shape for each month. I will put in photos into their appropriate date ~ doing at least one photo for each week. The other squares can have paper, embellishments and/or journaling.

Project 52 Support Group - Week 1 - FAQs & Page Builders

 Hi Support Groupies!

Get out your coffee and doughnuts, this is a long post - I PROMISE to be more interesting and concise in the future. Don't quit on us now!

*Opening Clarification* - Many of us use My Memories software and spend half our lives on the MMS Facebook page. This "P52 Support Group" is **NOT** officially affiliated with MMS - although we will be using their fabulous SATURDAY P52 series as a big part of our inspiration, it's not the only part! We want you to post your P52 layouts in the group, but if you are following the P52 plan at MMS, PLEASE still post your P52 LOs to the MMS page, I know Lisa and Jess have worked hard putting that together. This group is here to help keep each other on track and to add extra inspiration and encouragement to the mix!! Hopefully we didn't confuse too many of you! You can do this group AND the P52 at MMS, you can do just this group or you can do just P52 stuff on the MMS page - whatever you want! Just know they aren't directly related.

I'd like to reiterate that if you are a designer, this is not the place to promo your products (aside from crediting the designer of your products in your layouts), you can use the MMS Facebook page or elsewhere to do so. Barb from "Albums to Remember Designs" has graciously offered to be our official sponsor and she will be doing different prizes and freebies throughout the year to help keep us inspired and motivated. If you would like to do a give-away or coupon for our group, please contact me at jengscraps@gmail.com to discuss where we could fit you in!

Okay. On to the good stuff!

Now that we've all confessed our addictions to one another (and decided that there is nothing to do but continuing enabling each other), we're ready to talk Project 52! I thought it would be good to start with some FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) in anticipation of what you may (or already have) asked about this group.

...The FAQs...

Q: What's a "P52" or "Project 52"?
A: Project 52 is an attempt to record a year in your life by taking at least one photo a week and then making one layout a week (or you could use the weekly photos and do a monthly two-page spread if you are pressed for time or ideas, or you could do a two page weekly spread... the sky's the limit!) which can be assembled at the end of the year as a visual journal of your 2012.

Q: Does my layout really HAVE to be from THIS week? This week was boring and nothing happened and my camera was broken...
A: That's too bad about your camera. And yes, the layout really does. (Okay, if you can't, you can't - but try!) If you don't have any photos, you can challenge yourself by doing a journalling page. I will do a feature later this year on alternative layout ideas (such as "Last Year This Week" using photos from exactly a year ago, or "Why I Was Thinking About Granny" with a photo and some journalling and why she was on your mind this week, "In the News This Week" where you talk about something you saw that affected you/interested you... etc.) No one promised this would be easy - that's why we have this group!

Q: Are there any rules for being in this group?
A: Yes. Mind your manners, always credit your designer if you can (it doesn't have to be Barb, you can post using any kit from anywhere) and please ONLY POST YOUR P52 LAYOUTS. If you have other lovely creations, continue posting them on the MMS Facebook page or other galleries. If you post a non-P52 LO here, I will contact you about it and it will probably be removed (unless it has special meaning to the group). Please try and keep most of your comments and posts related to the purpose of this group - our P52 projects. We don't want the page to get too busy with unrelated content, especially with there being so many of us in the group.

Q: Let's say it's February 12th. Can I still join?
A: Yes! There's nothing wrong with a P-45 Album. You could always just keep going until next February 12th if you want a full P-52 Album.

That's it for my opening post - not very inspirational was it... But it's important to make sure we are all on the same page so we can have a great year together making LOs! Tomorrow (Saturday), MMS will have their first P52 post which you can use (or not use) as inspiration. I will have another post soon with some ideas for getting started on your P52!

Also, an FYI - I am going to be starting a list of tips/links etc that YOU post in the group so we have a place of reference for them (since they tend to disappear down the wall so quickly). For instance, if you see a cool idea or layout somewhere else, post the link to the group and I will try and catch it and add it to our "Inspiration List" which will be an on-going, updated post on either my blog or Barb's.

*****

Lastly, a message from our sponsor - hehee : D

Not sure what to do for your first P52 layout? Here's an idea...

We are really excited about these because they are PERFECT for keeping up with your P52 Projects and for any time that you are short on time or short on inspiration. Many of you have asked in the past if templates for PS(E) can be used in MMS - to which the answer is... No. But Barb is one clever gal and spotted a way we could do something very similar in MMSv3. She invented.... PAGE BUILDERS! And because she is so generous, she put a free one in her store so you can try it out before buying the rest of the collection. Here is a LINK to that freebie.

Here's what it looks like before and after:

(by Jonyce with Albums to Remember's "Pink Bliss")

Page Builders 14 and Winter Fun (LO by Jonyce)

Page Builders 14 and Winter Fun (LO by Jonyce)
Page Builder 13 and Family and Friends (LO by Jen Scraps)

Questions?

Quick set of instructions (thanks to Jonyce):

Step 1: Add Template page to your project
Step 2: Click on a shape, the shape options will show up on the right.
Step 3: Click the Paper button.
Step 4: Select your paper.
Step 5: Repeat for all the shapes on the page
Step 6: Double-Click on a photo placeholder and add your photo.
Step 7: Repeat for all photos
Step 8: Save, export to JPEG, and share!

Robyn asked... I downloaded the free template, but I can't find it in my MMS software. Should it be under the layout templates?

Jonyce said... You can do it 2 ways, "Create album from Designer Template" when you first open the program, or if you already have an album open you can go to the Insert Menu and select: "Add Other Template Pages"...then you can scroll down and find it in the list. (Page Builder 10-(Alb2Rem)
Barb said... When you open the album you want it in press "insert" on the top bar of your page, then choose "add other template pages", scroll down the list and you will see Page Builder Sampler, click on it and then add the pages. They should be in alphabetical order when looking at the template list. Make sure you clicked on the file once it was downloaded to instal it in your program.
